The Outer Banks is a Destination Resort Market easily accessible to most Major Metropolitan Areas in the Northeast and the Western part of North Carolina. We are within easy driving distance of the Washington DC Metro area (approximately 4.5 to 5 hours).
Norfolk International Airport is located just 1.5 hours from the Outer Banks and is an easy commute.
Most Vacationers electing to Fly will more often rent a car and make the drive to OBX. If a shuttle is preferred, there are services available - see shuttles. The availablility and schedules vary depending on the time of year (seasonal).

If you shuttle into Town and then wish to rent a vehicle check in with Enterprise in Kill Devil Hills Milepost 6.
Most visitors rent private homes for a week for vacation. For shorter stays, a partial rental (at least 3 nights) may be a good option in the off season.
For nightly stays off season, and week long stays in season, The Sanderling in Duck, The Hampton Inn in Corolla, and the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk are all good choices and highly recommended.
